Vehicle and ruleset applicability

What type of vehicle is being checked?

Most modules assess eligible light passenger and commercial vehicles. The dedicated motorcycle module assesses mopeds, motorcycles and motor tricycles. Braking systems, Vehicle ratings and Body & chassis also include selected light-trailer pathways.

Shared assessment information

Mass-rating change

This answer is entered once and reused by the Vehicle ratings pathway and the separate tyre and wheel load-basis check.

Has any applicable mass rating changed, or is a change proposed?

This includes GVM, GCM, ATM, GTM or an applicable axle rating. A rating change does not by itself prove that certification is required or that tyre and wheel load evidence is adequate.

Use the applicable manufacturer specifications for the same vehicle variant. The diameter and width references may come from different manufacturer-listed tyre options. Enter a complete metric or high-flotation designation, or choose an exact omitted-profile / legacy size from the published ADR tables.

Manufacturer certification references

Largest-diameter manufacturer tyre — diameter reference

Complete the dimensions

Is the width-reference tyre the same as the diameter-reference tyre?

The widest manufacturer-listed tyre may be different from the tyre with the largest overall diameter.

For the diameter test, use the manufacturer-listed tyre with the largest overall diameter. For the width test, use the manufacturer-listed tyre with the widest section width.

Tyre fitted to the vehicle

Fitted tyre

Complete the dimensions

Load capacity, wheel ratings, tyre category, speed rating and speedometer

Complete each check or select the unknown option

Are the load requirements and fitted markings the same on both axles?

Choose No for staggered load indices, different tyre categories, dual rear wheels or different wheel ratings.

Are the applicable manufacturer and fitted tyre load indices available?

MOD/CHECK converts load indices 0–200 to kilograms using ADR 23/03 and ADR 96/00 Annex 4. Use the single or dual value applicable to the actual wheel position.

Are the fitted wheel or rim load ratings documented?

Front axle tyre and wheel load evidence

XL or Reinforced is recorded separately and is never treated as an LT/C equivalent. If the tyre shows two load indices, enter the value applicable to the selected single or dual fitment.

Was the vehicle built after 1972?

Schedule 2 rule 50 applies to motor vehicles with four or more wheels built after 1972. The calculator does not assume it applies to an older vehicle.

Is the lowest fitted service-tyre speed rating available?

Use the lowest symbol across the service tyres fitted to the vehicle. The manufacturer/placard symbol is optional and identifies a lower-than-placard advisory. A lower symbol is not automatically non-compliant: NSW rule 50 uses the statutory vehicle-class threshold and the vehicle’s top speed.

Which rule 50 vehicle class applies?

Is the vehicle’s manufacturer top speed available?

If the fitted rating already meets the class threshold, top speed is not needed to pass this check. If it is below the class threshold, top speed is needed because rule 50 uses the lesser value.

Has speedometer compliance been checked after fitting?

The calculated tyre-diameter change does not establish speedometer compliance. Use a verified accuracy check.
