NSW guidance · use the vehicle category and selected scope shown in your assessment
Guide reviewed 4 October 2026

01 · Understand what was assessed

Start with the scope and the evidence.

Jurisdiction and vehicle category
Check that NSW and the selected category apply. Motorcycles and light trailers have specific module coverage; an unassessed system has no result.
Configuration and completion timing
Make sure the entries describe the current or proposed installation. Record timing where the form needs it to determine a new or amended pathway.
What each source does
The Declaration Order identifies significant modifications and exceptions. VSI 06 explains those paths. The applicable vehicle standards and ADRs still govern the actual installation.

02 · Outcomes and next steps

Read all findings, even with one headline.

Certification indicated

Prepare for a VSCCS assessment

At least one assessed significant-modification path was identified. Read the item reference and exception evidence. Give a certifier the complete configuration and supporting documents; a calculator result is not the certificate.

Rectification or a stated restriction

Resolve the identified requirement

A selected compliance check identifies a declared or measured defect, or the source states a restriction. Follow that finding and confirm the actual installation. Certification does not override a prohibited configuration.

Further information or review required

Obtain the missing information

Some check cannot be completed or its applicability is uncertain. The report names the missing measurement, identity, timing, approval or advice. Other independent findings can still be reported.

No assessed trigger or defect

Keep the scope with the record

The selected inputs did not identify a trigger or defect in the checks completed. Retain the evidence and identify remaining requirements. This outcome does not establish that every vehicle system has been inspected.

03 · Worked examples

Turn a finding into a concrete next step.

Illustrative records showing how scope and evidence change the next action.

Certification indicated

A suspension trigger and a tint defect

Prepare the suspension evidence for the certifier and rectify the below-limit tint. Keep both findings in the record; one action does not dispose of the other.

Further review required

The vehicle has an old certificate

Compare the certificate’s vehicle identity and modification description with the present configuration. Identify later changes separately; do not assume a certificate covers new work.

Limited assessment

One system was checked

The result identifies no trigger in selected brake questions. The scope shows that other systems were not assessed. Retain that scope when sharing the record.

04 · Your assessment record

Prepare one useful set of documents.

  1. Keep the report, current vehicle configuration and photographs together.
  2. Add the manufacturer, approval, measurement and installation evidence supporting each declared path.
  3. Identify which questions remain unresolved and which changes interact.
  4. Choose a licensed certifier whose categories cover the work; discuss the project before work or tests that depend on their requirements.
  5. Follow the current TfNSW registration process after certification and retain the certificate with the vehicle’s records.

Use Print / save PDF or Download summary. A saved local draft is a convenience copy, not a completed assessment. Check restored entries before calculating again.
